ABOUT

Shifani Reffai is an interdisciplinary creative from Sri Lanka, an artist and writer who weaves together storytelling, visual art and activism.

She uses her work to explore gender, consent, identity, community, and social taboos, and is passionate about representing voices of women and marginalized communities through both regional platforms and international online media.

Her print journalism has been published by the Daily Mirror, the Sunday Leader, Ceylon Today and the Sunday Times; her documentary photography and film work have been published by YAMU TV, Roar Global, British Council, Agenda14 and Sisterhood Initiative among others.

Her love for documenting life intersects with her passion for developing community. She is a student of many years of Nonviolent Communication and Systems Centered Theory, and uses her studies to facilitate community gatherings both online and in her village home in Weligama.
